Buying YES on 3rd. Claude went from 16th (Jan) to 6th (Feb) on appmagic BEFORE the QuitGPT surge. The Pentagon deal boycott drove Claude to #1 on the iOS App Store by March 1-2. For monthly total installs, ChatGPT likely retains #1 globally (boycott is US-focused, and their existing install base is 50x larger). Gemini has massive Google distribution. But Claude should comfortably break into top 3-4 for March given the surge in daily downloads — 503k single-day downloads on Feb 28 alone, 60%+ increase in free users. The question is whether the cultural momentum sustains or fades, but even partial sustenance through mid-March should push total March installs well above the 5M+ that earned 6th in February.
Buying YES on 2nd and 3rd. Claude jumped from 16th (Jan) to 6th (Feb) before the QuitGPT surge. The Cancel ChatGPT campaign went viral Feb 28 — 36M views on the main Instagram post, Claude hit #1 on US iOS App Store by Mar 1, 503K downloads in a single day (Anthropic all-time record).
For March global cross-platform installs, I think top 3 is significantly underpriced. The surge started right at the beginning of March, giving maximum cumulative advantage for the month. Even if the protest fades by mid-March, the first-week spike plus elevated baseline should push Claude well above the February 6th-place finish.
Main risk: global cross-platform includes markets where ChatGPT and Chinese apps (Doubao, DeepSeek) dominate. Claude is only ~#7 on Google Play. So #1 globally seems unlikely, but #2-4 feels like the sweet spot.
